AAJA-Denver is supplying a cornucopia of appetizers and there will be drink specials until 7 p.m. Specials include $2 bottles of Chang beer, $10 Chang towers (96 oz.),  and 2-for-1 house wine, wells and drafts.

Vice President Joe Nguyen will take over for outgoing President Gil Asakawa, who has served the role since 2009. KDVR reporter Chris Jose is the new vice president. Tillie Fong and Andy Vuong were re-elected as secretary and treasurer, respectively.

“I’m honored to be a part of the fastest-growing AAJA chapter in the country,” Jose said. “Moving forward, AAJA-Denver will continue to promote diversity in the newsroom and provide support for working journalists, photographers and students.  The chapter will also make it a priority to reach out and serve the Asian-American and Pacific Islander communities in the Rocky Mountain Region.”

President: Joe Nguyen
Journalist, The Denver Post

Joe Nguyen is a journalist for The Denver Post, covering Adams County and Aurora for YourHub since April 2011. He is a veteran reporter in Denver’s Asian-American community, as the driving force behind asiaxpress.com, and recently as editorial director of Asian Avenue Magazine. He served as AAJA-Denver’s vice president from 2008 to 2011.

Reporter, KDVR FOX 31 News/KWGN Channel 2

Chris joined the FOX 31/KWGN Channel 2 news team in August 2010 as general assignment reporter. He previously worked in Cheyenne, Wyo. and Ceder Rapids, Iowa before coming to Denver. Originally from Seattle, he enjoys shooting hoops, watching the Nuggets and struggling with his below-average golf game.

Andy Vuong primarily covers technology. He joined The Denver Post as a business reporter in 2000 after graduating from the University of Colorado at Boulder with a news-editorial degree. Over the years, his coverage has included everything from aviation to federal courts. He has served as AAJA-Denver’s treasurer since 2008.

Secretary: Tillie Fong
Freelance journalist

Originally from California, Tillie Fong came to Denver in 1987 to become a reporter for the Rocky Mountain News. She has also worked with In Denver Times and the Rocky Mountain Independent. She has served as secretary for AAJA-Denver since 2010 and is also Denver’s AAJA national board representative.

There will be hands-on breakout sessions so you can have your own press releases critiqued in one session, or get help putting together a press release in another. You’ll learn how you need to adjust your approach if you’re contacting TV instead of print media.
